The Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Computing, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) is a center of academic excellence, known for advancing research and innovation in cutting-edge fields of computing. We are currently inviting applications from passionate and qualified individuals to join our research team as a Research Assistant to contribute to ongoing work in Vision Language Models, a multidisciplinary domain combining Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Position Summary
This is a contract-based research position for an initial period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years based on performance and institutional requirements. The role is ideal for recent graduates with a strong academic record in IT-related fields, particularly those who have demonstrated research potential and an interest in AI-driven technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, evaluating, and optimizing Vision-Language Models.
- Conduct literature reviews, benchmark models, and contribute to academic publications.
- Support senior researchers and faculty in data preparation, model implementation, and documentation.
- Present findings through internal reviews and possible conference or journal submissions.
Required Qualifications
- A B.Sc. Honours degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Software Engineering with a First or Second Class from a recognized university.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal) with strong academic writing skills.
- Foundational understanding of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing concepts and frameworks.
- Prior undergraduate research experience in a related area is a strong advantage.
Compensation & Terms
- Position: Research Assistant (On Contract)
- Monthly Salary: LKR 80,000
- Contract Duration: 1 year, renewable for up to 2 additional years based on performance and project needs.
