Job Role Summary
As the General Manager – Electrical Design & Engineering, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, oversee end-to-end electrical design responsibilities, and ensure project execution aligns with technical, contractual, and commercial expectations. This role demands in-depth technical knowledge, leadership capability, and strong project and client management skills.
Key Responsibilities
General Management Duties
- Assign project resources based on skillsets and project needs.
- Develop scope of work documents, assumptions, clarifications, and man-hour estimates in response to RFPs.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats across teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Design Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Design Basis Reports (DBR) by analyzing contract terms, technical scope, design risk, and BOQ alignment.
- Perform electrical design calculations including load lists, equipment sizing, short circuit studies, motor starting, cable sizing, earthing, and lightning protection.
- Proficient in design tools like DIALux and Microsoft Excel; adherence to BIS, IEC, IEEE, NBC, CPWD, CBIP, IE & CEA rules is essential.
- Coordinate and interface with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring integrated design and successful client approvals.
Layout Engineering, Estimation & BOQ
- Hands-on understanding of REVIT, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows.
- Review and interpret drawings across disciplines including civil, mechanical, and ELV systems.
- Develop GFC and shop drawings for substation layouts, cable trays, lighting, earthing, and control systems.
- Prepare SLDs with relay protection schemes, interlocks, and statutory compliance.
- Generate detailed BOQs, BOMs, cable schedules, and interface matrices with instrumentation systems.
Procurement, Installation & Commissioning
- Prepare RFQs with detailed datasheets, technical specifications, and interface requirements.
- Evaluate vendor submissions for compliance with site conditions, constructability, and technical benchmarks.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle from procurement through commissioning and handover.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering and design leadership.
- Excellent command of electrical codes, protection systems, and multidisciplinary integration.
- Proven leadership in managing teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
- Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills.
